Not Another Ski Movie is a showcase of some very talented skiers. Jon Olsson, Henrik Windstedt, Niklas Karlstrom, Simon Dumont, Lars Veen and Sage Cattebriga to name but a few. From them we are treated to some fun, technical and inspirational footage with each skier having their own dedicated segment in the film, in which they waste no time in exhibiting their ability.

However, the segmented format has both pros and cons. Although its nice to see the skiers displaying their undoubted skills in different disciplines, each segment therefore shows differing styles and it does sometimes feel a bit mismatched and broken at times and, on occasion, repetitive.

The production, however, deserves plaudits. Shot on 16mm film, the footage has a warming ‘old school’ quality. There are some beautiful shots of scenery and the skiers are well documented with creative angles, cinematic sequences, and smooth, neat editing. It all adds up to a very enjoyable viewing experience.

At 39 minutes long the film is of a good length and it will be of interest to fans of all experience and discipline.

Highlights of the film are the opening sequence, and a portion that comes around two thirds of the way in. The former is a miniature movie in itself: short, sweet and a mix of cinematic image, music and winter sports action. In the latter, the style of the film changes, and really grabs your attention. Some wacky graphics and a stomping soundtrack back up the skiers and it comes at the perfect time to reignite the film.

Overall it’s a well-shot film with an inspiring soundtrack and some excellent footage. Its balances Park, Backcountry and Jibbing nicely and the film has something for everyone. The soundtrack is excellent and flows with the film and much like the content of the movie, it will appeal to the masses.

Not Another Ski Movie isn’t the greatest ski film ever made but it seems to have something special, This is a film you can watch once, twice even three times….. in a day and not get bored.
